Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, Uttara Centre, Metro Rail Station, Uttara and Bijoy Sarani conducted a drill on firefighting, rescue, first aid, and evacuation by the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
The drill was held at 11 am. at Uttara Centre and 3 pm at Bijoy Sarani Centre on Wednesday. Various equipment including water tender, pump carrying tender, scissor lift, ambulance, and snorkel vehicle were used in the drill.
The drill demonstrated how to ensure passenger safety in case of a sudden fire accident at the metro rail or metro rail station, how to extinguish the fire, how to evacuate the general public, and how to provide first aid to the injured and send them to the hospital. Alongside the Fire Service and Civil Defence, metro rail security personnel and local volunteers of the fire service participated in the drill. During the drill, members of the Metropolitan Police and Traffic Police performed their duties, including traffic control and other security responsibilities.
At the end of the drill, a speech was given by AKM Khairul Alam, Director (Administration) of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited. At this time, Md. Saleh Uddin, Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dhaka Division, briefed the media and answered various questions. It was stated in the briefing that the purpose of the training drill was to raise awareness and inform the metro rail authorities and the general public about their responsibilities in the event of a real accident. This initiative will continue.
The two drills were conducted by Kazi Nazmuzzaman, Assistant Director, Fire Service and Civil Defence, Dhaka.
The event was conducted by Md. Shahjahan Shikder, Acting Officer of the Media Cell, and Senior Station Officer AKM Raihanul Ashraf.
At that time, zone heads and various level officials and employees of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited and Fire Service and Civil Defence were present.
