Fundamental reforms needed to rebuild country : Nahid Islam
NCP Convener Nahid Islam said, we have been able to overthrow fascism. But just the fall of the fascist regime is not enough. The country must now be rebuilt through fundamental reforms.
Fundamental reform is necessary. A July Declaration must be announced. The constitutional recognition of the mass uprising must be given. Those who gave their lives in this uprising must be recognized as martyrs by the state. The constitution must acknowledge this. For this, the July Declaration and July Charter are essential. We will not tolerate any kind of conspiracy or delay tactics. There is no alternative thought in this regard.”
Nahid said, “We must build a Bangladesh where there will be democracy, equality, and justice. A corruption-free Bangladesh is the aspiration of the new generation of students and masses. But since the victory on August 5, various parties have deviated from that aspiration. At the Natore program, disgraceful attempts were made to obstruct the event.
Banners were torn. Just a year ago, those who tore banners and obstructed programs were rejected by the land of Bengal. If no lessons are learned yet, those obstructing now will face the same fate.”
He made these remarks as the chief guest at a street rally held at Shadhinota Chattar in Madrasa Mor, Natore town, on Monday afternoon, following the seventh day of the SCP’s July March.
At 1 PM on Monday, Nahid Islam, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, chief coordinator Nasir Uddin Patuari, Northern chief coordinator Sarjis Alam, southern chief coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, and other central leaders arrived in Natore from Rajshahi by road.
Leaders and activists from Natore welcomed the July movement leaders with flowers at the Natore-Rajshahi border. They marched on foot from the town’s Station Bazar and joined the street rally at Madrasa Mor’s Shadhinota Chattar at 2:30 PM.
The rally was conducted by northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam and speeches were delivered by NCP Convener Nahid Islam, senior joint convener Samanta Sharmin, joint convener Dr. Tajnuva Jabin, member secretary Akhtar Hossain, central NCP member Asif Mostafa Jamal, Natore district NCP chief coordinator Principal Jarjis Kadiyu, and senior joint coordinator and Natore Chamber president Abdul Mannaf, among others.
Also present were NCP senior joint member secretary Nahida Sarwar Nibha, southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator Nasir Uddin Patuari, senior joint member secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara, and central leaders.
After the rally, a meeting was held with the families of the martyrs and injured victims, after which the convoy of the July March departed for Sirajganj.
Meanwhile, Khorshed Alam was arrested by Natore Detective Police on suspicion of sabotage due to social media posts on Sunday stating that NCP leaders would be “taught a lesson” upon arriving in Bonpara, Natore.
On the other hand, many banners and festoons welcoming the arrival of NCP central leaders in Natore were torn down by miscreants late Sunday night. The incidents occurred in the Station Bazar area and around Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah Government College.
