GAU organises training on mango ptocessing, preservation

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) organized a day-long training program on "Mango Processing and Preservation" on Tuesday at the International Complex Seminar room, under the initiative of the Directorate Outreach program.
The training aimed to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance export potential, disseminate knowledge and technology, promote agro-industrial development, foster entrepreneurship and employment.
The session was presided over by Director (Outreach Program) Prof Dr. Farhana Yeasmin, The event was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of GAU, Prof Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman, with Pro -Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. M. Moynul Haque and Treasurer Prof Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad attending as special guests. Professor Dr. Farhana Yeasmin conducted hands-on training on the production of mango-based products like mango leather and ready-to-drink juice, while Prof Dr. Md. Azizul Hoque from the Department of Horticulture delivered a session on making mango jam and jelly.
A total of 40 participants, including 10 entrepreneurs, 10 farmers from Kaulatia, Sadar, and Joydebpur, and 20 GAU students (10 MS and 10 BS), took part in the program.
The training featured visual presentations on the nutritional value, processing techniques, and commercial viability of mango products, generating strong interest among attendees. Entrepreneur Shamim Al Mamun shared that the training would help him create mango-based products for national and international markets and expressed hope for continued university support.
In his closing remarks, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted Bangladesh's immense potential in mango production and emphasized the importance of such initiatives to minimize post-harvest losses. He stressed that empowering youth through entrepreneurship can ensure livelihoods and create broader employment opportunities. The VC reaffirmed GAU's commitment to translating research into field-level impact. The event concluded with remarks from invited guests and a closing statement by Prof Dr. Farhana Yeasmin.
