Gazipur sets humanitarian example: 5 MPs donate one month's salary, Govt officials contribute one day's to PM's Relief Fund for flood victims

In a remarkable humanitarian initiative to support people affected by the ongoing floods across the country, the Gazipur District Administration has taken an exceptional step. All five Members of Parliament (MPs) representing Gazipur have pledged to donate their one month's basic salary, while government officials and employees of various district offices have agreed to contribute one day's basic salary to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.
The decision was unanimously adopted at the District Law and Order Committee meeting held on Sunday at the Deputy Commissioner's Office. The meeting was chaired by Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate (Joint Secretary) Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan.
During the meeting, Gazipur-5 MP and Convener of the Gazipur District BNP, AKM Fazlul Haque Milon, announced that he would donate his entire one month's basic salary as a Member of Parliament to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund for flood victims.
He also urged government officials and employees present at the meeting to contribute one day's basic salary in support of those affected by the floods.
Responding immediately to his appeal, Deputy Commissioner Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan expressed his full support.
The Deputy Commissioner then contacted the other MPs by phone, and they also expressed their willingness to join the initiative. They are: Gazipur-1 MP Md. Mujibur Rahman, Gazipur-2 MP M. Manjurul Karim Rony, Gazipur-3 MP Dr. Rafiqul Islam Bacchu, and Gazipur-4 MP Salah Uddin Aiyubi. Each of them pledged to donate one month's basic salary to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund.
According to the district administration, the equivalent of one day's basic salary from officials and employees of all government offices in Gazipur will be collected within the next three working days under the overall coordination of the district administration.
The collected funds will then be sent to the Prime Minister's Relief and Welfare Fund as quickly as possible.
Deputy Commissioner (Joint Secretary) Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan said, "Gazipur has taken this unique initiative as a special district. The joint contribution of elected representatives and government officials and employees will serve as a bright and inspiring example for other districts across the country.
Among those present at the meeting were Gazipur Superintendent of Police Md. Sharif Uddin, Additional District Magistrate Salma Khatun, senior officials of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police, representatives of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), heads of various government departments, and all Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) of the district.
