Meherpur Deputy Commissioner Shilpi Rani Roy said, I urge all those who will participate in the game today and those who will enjoy the game to say 'no' to drugs.

She said all these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the Deputy Commissioner Gold Cup Football Tournament at the playground of Chandbil Government Primary School organized by the Meherpur Sadar Upazila Administration at 5 pm on Monday.

At that time, she officially inaugurated the game by releasing balloons and unveiling the trophy. Sadar Upazila Parishad UNO Bablu Sutradhar and District BNP General Secretary Adv. Kamrul Hasan were present as special guests.

Bablu Sutradhar said, organizing such a football tournament will play an important role in keeping our society away from the dangers of drugs and motivating the youth to play sports. All those who participated in the game will accept winning and losing as a normal part of sports. Along with this, I urge the players, organizers and spectators to maintain mutual harmony, brotherhood and discipline. Adv. Kamrul Hasan said, through this football tournament, we want to make Meherpur drug-free. We believe that the spread of sports will play an important role in keeping the youth away from drugs. The dangers of drugs often start with harmful habits like cigarettes. Therefore, players, sports lovers and every person in the society should stay away from smoking and drugs. Let's all encourage sports together and build a healthy, beautiful and drug-free society. Also, the Principal of the Municipal Degree College and the President of Sadar Upazila BNP, Faiz Mohammad, General Secretary Shahidul Islam, Nayeb Amir Mahbub Ul Alam of the District Jamaat-e-Islami, among others, spoke at the time. At the time, Sadar Upazila Project Implementation Officer Saidur Rahman, Organizing Secretary of the District BNP Omar Faruk Liton, Member and Secretary of the Surah Committee of the District Jamaat-e-Islami Md. Iqbal Hussain, Sadar Upazila Amir Sohel Rana, Sadar Upazila Secretary Jabbarul Islam, Member Secretary of the District Sports Association Rakibul Hasan Ripon, Member Secretary of the Sadar Upazila Sports Association Ayub Hossain, President of the Chandbil Sher-e-Bangla Club Majed Ali, along with officials from various departments, sports organizers and dignitaries were present. In the match, Buripota Union defeated Pirojpur Union 1-0 and advanced to the semi-finals. In the 24th minute of the second half of the match, substitute player Solaiman scored the winning goal. Shamim's free-kick from outside the D-box reached Solaiman, who was in an unmarked position, and he sent the ball into the net with a powerful shot with his first touch. Buripota Union secured their place in the semi-finals with the only goal he scored. The second match will be held at Jhaubaria Secondary School ground, where Shyampur's opponent is Qutubpur. In the third match, Baradi and Amdah will face each other at Chandbil Government Primary School ground. According to the organizing source, the winner of the first match and the winner of the second match will play in the first semi-final at Jhaubaria Secondary School ground.

The winner of the third match and the winner of Amjhupi Union's Govipur Secondary School ground will participate in the second semi-final. The final match will be held at Chandbil Government Primary School ground, where the winners of the two semi-finals will fight for the title.
