Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) organised a solidarity rally in Shahbagh

Staff Correspondent

Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) organised a solidarity rally in Shahbagh on Friday, protesting the attack that injured its President Nurul Haque Nur and other activists.

The rally centered around a three-point demand: first, the immediate punishment of all those responsible for the brutal attack. Second, the banning of the Awami League’s allies—namely the Jatiya Party and the 14‑Party Alliance—along with cancellation of their registrations and bringing them to justice. Third, the resignation of the home affairs adviser.

Leaders and supporters from various political parties, including BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other allied groups, participated in the rally.

On August 29, violence broke out when a procession by the Gono Odhikar Parishad passed by Jatiya Party’s central office in Kakrail, triggering a clash.

Nur sustained a severe head injury and a broken nose during the attack. Even now he is not completely out of danger, and the chief adviser directed to send him abroad for treatment.

He was initially taken to the Islami Bank Central Hospital in Kakrail, before being transferred to the ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

He was moved to a cabin on Monday.
