Govt working for sustainable dev of ethnic groups, tea workers: MP Syed Faisal

Habiganj-4 (Madhabpur-Chunarughat) Member of Parliament Syed Md. Faisal has stated that the government is sincerely working to improve the living standards of the country's small ethnic communities and tea garden workers. Various programs are being implemented to foster education, healthcare, housing, and socioeconomic development for these long-neglected populations.

The lawmaker made these remarks on Saturday morning while addressing an audience as the chief guest at a distribution ceremony held at the Chunarughat Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Organized under the initiative of the Prime Minister's Office as part of development activities in tea garden areas, the event distributed educational scholarships and bicycles among small ethnic students, alongside various government aid packages for poor, helpless, widowed, divorced, orphaned, and landless families.

He said, thousands of tea worker families across the 23 tea gardens in Madhabpur and Chunarughat upazilas still live below the poverty line and face numerous fundamental problems. He informed the gathering that the ground realities and various challenges faced by tea garden workers have been directly presented to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. As part of government planning, continuous efforts are underway to improve the quality of life for tea workers and small ethnic populations through advancements in education, healthcare, communication infrastructure, housing, and job creation.

Presided over by Chunarughat UNO Galib Chowdhury, the event featured speeches by former mayor Nazim Uddin Shamchu, Upazila BNP General Secretary Adv Mir Siraj, former general secretary Mozammel Haque Talukdar, former chairman Abu Saleh Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, Municipal BNP President Principal Fazlul হক Tarafdar Abid, Upazila BNP former organizational secretary Shamsul Haque Talukdar, Upazila Juba Dal Convener Advocate Mozammel Ahmed Chowdhury, Member Secretary Jalal Ahmed, Senior Joint Convener Shafiq Mia Mohaldar, First Joint Convener Syed Abu Naim Halim, Upazila Chhatra Dal Convener Arifur Rahman Arif, Joint Convener Shah Nawaz, and Laskarpur Valley Workers Union Acting General Secretary Nripen Pal.
