Sonagazi (Feni) Correspondent
A human chain was organized by local residents in Sonagazi, Feni, demanding the reconstruction of the Musapur Regulator on the Choto Feni River at the confluence of Sonagazi and Companiganj in Noakhali, as well as necessary measures to prevent river erosion.
The human chain was held on Monday morning in the Mollapara area adjacent to the river erosion site in Chardarbesh Union of Sonagazi Upazila.
Speakers at the human chain included Shamsuddin Khokon, General Secretary of Feni District Farmers’ League and former Chairman of Charchandia Union Parishad; Abul Kalam Azad, former Chairman of Chardarbesh Union; Selim Reza, leader of JISAS; UP member Elias; Youth League leaders Jasim and Khokon; Student League leader Rafiq; and Syed Nizam, among others. The human chain was attended by students and teachers from schools and madrasas, as well as people from various professions in the area. Speakers urgently demanded that the interim government take swift action to reconstruct the Musapur Regulator and implement measures to prevent river erosion to protect agricultural land and homes from further damage.
It is mentioned that last year, due to severe flooding caused by hill torrents from India, the Musapur Regulator collapsed under immense water pressure. As a result, tidal water from the Bay of Bengal is now causing hundreds of homes and agricultural lands along the riverbank to be eroded into the river.
