Husband surrenders to police after killing wife in Munshiganj

A man in Munshiganj has confessed to killing his wife and surrendered to the police. Early Tuesday morning at around 5 AM, the accused husband, Sumon alias Shahjahan (45), arrived at the Sadar police station and admitted to killing his wife by hacking her with a machete.

 The incident happened  in the Purbo Para area of Mirkadim under Munshiganj Sadar Upazila. The deceased wife has been identified as Mitu Akter (28), daughter of Montu Shikar from the Naidighi Pathar area. The accused husband, Sumon alias Shahjahan (45), is the son of Shoriyat Ullah from the Bot Tola area of Rikabi Bazar.

According to neighbors and relatives, Sumon married Mitu Akter about eight months ago. Mitu had previously been married and had three children from that marriage. This was also Sumon’s second marriage. Since their marriage, the couple had frequent disputes and quarrels. Recently, following a quarrel, Mitu returned to her father’s house. On Monday, Sumon’s friends brought her back home. Later that night, around 2 AM, after drinking alcohol with his friends, Sumon, with their help, attacked his wife Mitu with a sharp machete, injuring various parts of her body and her neck to ensure her death.

Munshiganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Alam confirmed that Sumon Mia surrendered to the police after killing his wife. The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case is under process regarding the incident, added the OC.
