
Joint operation by Coast Guard, Police : 1.05 million meters illegal current nets seized

Bangladesh Coast Guard and police in a joint raid have seized 1.05 million meters of illegal current nets at Moheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque disclosed the information through a press release on Thursday morning.
According to the press release, acting on a tip-off, a joint operation was conducted at 12:00 PM on Wednesday by Coast Guard Station Maheshkhali and the police in the Kutubjum Taziyakata area under Maheshkhali police station in Cox’s Bazar. During the raid, a house in the area was searched, and approximately 150 million meters of illegal foreign current nets worth around Tk 1.05 billion were recovered.
Sensing the presence of the joint forces, the illegal net traders managed to flee the scene, and no arrests were made.
Later, the seized current nets were publicly destroyed in the presence of the Maheshkhali Upazila Fisheries Officer.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to protect the country’s fisheries resources.
