There have been allegations of extorting Tk 4 crore from a businessman in Abhaynagar, Jashore by burying him in the sand and holding him hostage at gunpoint.
In this incident, the victim's wife, Mosha Asma Khatun, filed a written complaint of 4 crore taka at the Abhaynagar police station on Wednesday (July 30) and at the army camp on Thursday (July 31).
However, she said that she would not file a complaint at the police station.
The name of the victim businessman is Shahnewaz Kabir Tipu, he is the owner of an organization called Jafridi Enterprise in Nawapara.
On the other hand, the accused are Asaduzzaman Jony, Organizing Secretary of Nawapara Municipality BNP (post suspended) in Abhaynagar Upazila, and Mofizur Rahman, General Secretary of Nawapara Press Club.
The complaint states that on the morning of September 2 last year, a person named Saikat Hossain Hira cleverly called Shahnewaz Kabir Tipu to the office of the then organizing secretary of Nawapara Municipality BNP, Asaduzzaman Jony. At that time, Jony beat him up and held him hostage at gunpoint and demanded Tk 2 crore.
Then, Tipu's wife made a real time gross settlement (RTGS) of Tk 2 crore from South Bangla Bank to Asaduzzaman Jony's company account. After receiving the money, Tipu was released that day. Then, on September 18, around 9 am, Tipu was going to the market from his village home, Chalishia, on a motorcycle. On the way, when he crossed the gate of the Upazila Health Complex, Saikat Hossain Hira stopped him.
After that, Tipu's mobile phone was found switched off until 3 pm. Later, it was learned that Tipu had been taken to Kona Ecopark owned by BNP leader Asaduzzaman Jony. When Tipu's wife went there, Asaduzzaman Jony, Samrat Hossain and Nawapara Press Club General Secretary Mofizur Rahman beat the plaintiff with firearms and dug a hole up to his chest and covered it with sand and demanded another 2 crore taka.
At that time, Tipu was forced to call his manager and ask him to give the money. Then the manager made a real time gross settlement (RTGS) of 68 lakh taka from Pubali Bank and 32 lakh taka from South Bangla Bank into the account of Press Club Secretary Mofiz.
At that time, Mofizur collected another 1 crore taka check. He also made three blank stamps of 100 taka purchased in Jony's name and three in Dilip Shah's name to be signed. Then, he threatened to kill anyone if they said anything and let them go.
When asked, plaintiff Asma Khatun said, "Jony took 4 crore taka from me in two installments. I have not filed a complaint for security reasons for so long. Now my business is on the verge of closure. So I demand a fair trial.’
When I tried to talk about the complaint, Nawapara Press Club General Secretary Mofizur Rahman’s mobile phone was switched off, so his statement could not be known. Later, the mobile phone of Asaduzzaman Jony, the (expelled) organizing secretary of the municipal BNP, was also switched off.
In this regard, District BNP President Syed Saberul Haque Sabu said, ‘Action has already been taken against Jony due to anti-organizational activities. He is no longer one of us. There is no information about collecting money from the businessman. Our party will not take any responsibility for his activities.’
Abdul Alim, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, said, ‘We have received a verbal complaint. However, you should tell the wife of businessman Tipu to file a complaint at the police station. Action will be taken after accepting the complaint and investigating.’
Although attempts were made to contact Asaduzzaman Jony on his phone several times in this regard, it was switched off. However, he wrote on his Facebook account on Thursday night, "I swear with my hand on my chest, I will take revenge on all the conspirators. I was not created in a day, but after a long journey, this is my identity today, if someone wants to break it like a piece of glass, and I will silently take it head on, I am not the kind of person.
