Meeting on gender equality, digital security held in Betagi

A capacity-building discussion on gender stereotypes, digital security, media literacy, and advocacy was held with local government authorities at the Betagi Upazila Parishad auditorium in Barguna on Wednesday.
The event was organized by the Green Peace Youth Development Society under the 'Samatay Tarunyo' (Youth in Equality) project, implemented by Jaago Foundation and Plan International Bangladesh with support from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Betagi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muh. Saddam Hossain attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Among the special guests who addressed the event were Family Planning Officer Md. Delowar Hossain, Betagi Press Club President Abdus Salam Siddiqui, Executive Director of NGO EZWA Asadul Islam Chinu, Citizens for Good Governance (SUJAN) President Sadul Islam Montu, Upazila Corruption Prevention Committee General Secretary Md. Mohasin Khan, Citizens Forum President Lion Md. Shamim Sikder, Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. Mamun, and Betagi Police Station Sub-Inspector Humayun.
Green Peace Youth Development Society President Sohel Mir, Director Md. Ariful Islam Manna, Assistant Director Saiful Hossain Riaz Kazi, Ismat Mehzabin Binti, Sourav Jamaddar, and Golam Mortuza Imon, among others, also delivered speeches. Representatives from various government and non-government institutions, alongside civil society members, were present.
Discussions at the meeting focused on gender-based social perspectives and discrimination, digital safety for women and young girls, prevention of online harassment, media and social media verification, awareness raising, and the active role of youth in establishing rights. Participants also emphasized the importance of coordinated local initiatives to eliminate existing gender stereotypes within families and society and to build a safe, inclusive environment for women and girls.
Speakers stressed that such initiatives enhance youth awareness and capacity while strengthening collaboration between government bodies, civil society, and youth organizations.
