Munshiganj to observe 'Bloody Munshiganj Day ' on Aug 4

The Munshiganj District Administration has taken the initiative to observe tomorrow, Monday, as a day of remembrance for the student-public uprising that took place in Munshiganj town on August 4, 2024. 

The day will be officially observed as "Bloody Munshiganj Day" with due respect and dignity across the district. According to sources from the district administration, various programs have already been arranged for the occasion.

At  9:30 AM, members of the martyr's families will lay wreaths at the 'Street Memory Stamp' built in honor of the three martyrs on the road divider in the Uttar Islampur area of the city.

 Deputy  Commissioner Fatema Tul Jannat will be present during this ceremony. This will be followed by prayers and a special supplication (monajat) in memory of the martyrs at the 'July Shahid Smritistambha' (July Martyrs' Memorial) located in the Lichutala area of the city. At 10:30 AM, an exhibition of photographs and documentaries will be inaugurated at the District Shilpakala Academy by the District Commissioner. Following this, at 11:30 AM, a discussion meeting titled "Bloody Munshiganj" will be held in the conference room of the District Commissioner's office.

It is worth noting that during the student-public uprising in 2024, a clash occurred between protesters, Awami League activists, and police in Munshiganj town on August 4. During the conflict, three individuals were fatally shot in the Uttar Islampur area.

 Besides , 13 other people were killed in various locations in Dhaka between July 13 and August 5. The three individuals killed in Munshiganj on August 4 were Sazzal Mollah (31), a worker and son of Ali Akbar Mollah; Riajul Faraji (38), a worker and son of Matin Faraji; and Nur Mohammad alias Dipjol (22), a worker and son of Siraj Sardar. The construction of the 'Street Memory Stamp' in honor of the three martyrs of the public uprising began on July 19 in the Uttar Islampur area.

 Later, on July 27, Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan inaugurated the 'July Shahid Smritistambha' in the Lichutala area of the city in memory of the martyrs.
