
Nurul Islam Memorial Cricket Tournament begins at DU

The ‘Nurul Islam Memorial Cricket Tournament’ for fourth-class employees of Dhaka University has commenced on Monday.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the tournament as the chief guest at the central playground. The event is organized by the Dhaka University Fourth-Class Employees Union.
Presided over by the Union’s President Md. Shahjahan, the ceremony featured speeches by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Sayma Haque Bidisha and Acting Director of the Physical Education Center S.M. Zakaria as special guests. The event was moderated by General Secretary Md. Selim Mia.
Notably, the late Md. Nurul Islam, a former student of Dhaka University, was the founding president of the Fourth-Class Employees Union. This cricket tournament is organized in his memory. Eight teams, named Karnaphuli, Surma, Yamuna, Turag, Dhaleshwari, Buriganga, Meghna, and Padma, are participating. In the opening match, ‘Karnaphuli’ defeated ‘Turag’ by 8 runs.
