One dead, 18 hurt in clash over land dispute in Sherpur

A person named Asharaful Islam (33) was killed in a clash between two sides over a land dispute in Sherpur's Sribardi. 18 people were injured in the incident.
The incident took place on Monday morning in Madarpur village of Khariakajirchar union of the upazila.
The deceased Ashraful Islam (33) is the son of the deceased Kalu Mia of Madarpur area of Khariakajirchar union. In the incident, about 18 people from both sides, including Maha Alam (50), brother of the deceased Ashraful of Madarpur area, and Hajera, were injured. The injured have been admitted to Sribardi Upazila Health Complex, Sherpur District Sadar Hospital and Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The situation is tense across the area following the incident.

Additional police have been deployed to bring the situation under control. According to police and local sources, Nurul Amin, a UP member of Madarpur village of Khariakazir Char union in the upazila, had been in a long-standing land dispute with Ashrarul Islam, son of the deceased Kalu Mia of the same area.
Shribardi Police Station OC Mohammad Nurul Alam said, the investigation is underway.
