The Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested the head of notorious robber ‘Maj Jahangir Bahini’ in Sundarbans on Tuesday with arms and ammunition.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan gave this information in a press release on Tuesday morning.Under the direct direction of the Honorable Home Minister, the Bangladesh Coast Guard is taking a strict stance against all the active forest robbers in the Sundarbans region. As part of this, two special operations named “Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans” and “Operation Mangrove Shield” are being conducted under the leadership of the Coast Guard. As a continuous success of this operation, the head of the notorious robber Maj Jahangir Bahini, Md. Jahidul Islam alias Maj Jahangir, was arrested for the fourth time under the "Operation Mangrove Shield".It is learnt  that the notorious robber Maj Jahangir of the Sundarbans is staying in the Kalir Khan area adjacent to the Adachai Forest Office of the Shibsa River in the Sundarbans under the Dakop police station. Based on the secret information received, a special operation was conducted in the said area at 1 am on Tuesday  by the Coast Guard Base Mongla and he was arrested along with 2 single-barreled guns and 5 rounds of fresh cartridges.
The arrested robber, Md. Jahidul Islam alias Maj Jahangir (56), is a resident of Naragati police station in Narail district. He had been the head of this force for a long time, robbing the Sundarbans and taking ordinary fishermen hostage for ransom.Further legal action against the seized weapons, ammunition and arrested robbers has been taken. Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to completely free the Sundarbans from bandits, the press release added.
