PM's directive : Neem trees to be planted along highway in Aminbazar after removal of waste : State Minister Shahe Alam

Staff Correspondent

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives, Mir Shahe Alam, MP, declared that the government is focused on transforming Bangladesh into a clean, green, and highly livable nation.

He emphasized that the current administration under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working relentlessly to achieve this objective through coordinated urban sanitation drives.

The State Minister made these remarks on Saturday while inspecting an ongoing waste management, clean-up, and afforestation drive conducted along both sides of the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the Aminbazar area of Savar.

The project is being executed following direct directives from the Prime Minister. Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Miz Farida Khanam accompanied the minister during the site visit.

Minister Mir Shahe Alam explained that the highway stretch from Aminbazar to Hemayetpur had been plagued by unauthorized garbage dumping and structural mismanagement for over two decades. Following the Prime Minister's intervention, a coordinated initiative between the ministry and the Dhaka District Administration was launched to permanently clear the waste across a 1.2-kilometer expanse, sanitize the environment, and transform the area into a green belt by planting neem saplings. He noted that this intervention will finally free commuters and local residents from the severe stench that has disrupted public health for nearly 20 years.

Tthe State Minister assured that all damaged roads in the area would undergo rapid infrastructural renovation as soon as seasonal rainwater recedes.

Urging the public to practice civic responsibility, the Minister requested residents, business owners, and market committees across Savar Municipality to refrain from illegal waste disposal and to utilize designated landfills. He noted that building a pollution-free Bangladesh requires the collective synergy of government operations and public cooperation.

Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Miz Farida Khanam said, the district administration is treating the project with the highest priority to realize the Prime Minister's vision of a clean and green Greater Dhaka.

Detailing the technical execution, the DC said, after clearing the piled-up waste from the 1.2-kilometer road stretch near the Aminbazar Bhanga Bridge area, the ground will be filled with 15 feet of sand, secured with protective netting barriers, and planted extensively with neem saplings to prevent future encroachment or dumping.

The inspection team included Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) of Dhaka Md. Abdur Rariul Alam, Savar UNO Md. Saiful Islam, Keraniganj UNO Md. Umar Faruq, Assistant Commissioner (Nezarat ) Md. Adnan Zulfikar, and Savar Upazila Engineer of LGED Md. Minarul Islam, among other senior administrative officials.
