To control the prevailing political unrest in Kurigram’s Chilmari and maintain normal law and order, police patrols have been intensified.

Since Sunday (July 6) morning, these patrols have been ongoing in various important locations across the upazila. Later, they took position at Pump More.

The matter of the patrol has been confirmed by the OC of Chilmari Model Police Station, Md. Ashraful Islam.

On-site observations revealed that surveillance was conducted in areas such as Fakirer Hat in Raniganj Union, Sabujpara in Thanahat Union, College More, Pump More, and Sharif’s Hat in Jordach area of Ramna Union to normalize the situation.

The police stated that under the leadership of OC Ashraful Islam, in coordination with Kurigram Police Lines and the thana police, surveillance is being carried out in key locations of the upazila.

Chilmari Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Ashraful Islam, said that police surveillance and patrols have been intensified to control the prevailing political unrest. Additionally, a vigorous operation is being conducted to arrest the accused in connection with a related case.

Notably, on Thursday (July 3) morning, a 30-member convening committee was announced with Abdul Bari Sarkar as convener and Abu Hanifa as member secretary by the district BNP convener Md. Mostafizur Rahman Mustafa and member secretary Alhaj Sohail Hosnain Kaykobad. Demanding the cancellation of this committee, a section of BNP organized a protest march that noon, and on the same night, party activists held a torchlight procession to demand the committee’s cancellation.

 

 Immediately following the torchlight procession, Ruhul Amin Zia, the member secretary of the upazila Jubo Dal, was assaulted. He is currently receiving treatment at Kurigram General Hospital. A case has been registered at Chilmari Model Police Station regarding this incident.
