Potatoes damaged by using salt in Sreenagar
Sreenagar (Munshiganj) Correspondent
A farmer in Sreenagar has alleged that miscreants deliberately destroyed his harvested potato crop by applying salt inside his storage facility.
The salt was spread across the entire storage, causing nearly 1,300 maunds (approximately 52 tons) of potatoes to rot. The incident took place in a potato storage house located beside the Bibandi-Panchlodia road in the upazila. According to current market prices, the estimated loss is around 7 to 8 lakh taka.
Local sources said that the storage belongs to Robin Hawlader, son of the late Abul Hashem Hawlader of Bibandi village in Kukutia Union. The stored potatoes began to rot upon contact with salt. Residents expressed outrage over this malicious act.
Victim Robin Hawlader stated, "When I entered the storage in the morning to check on the potatoes, I found salt scattered all over. The salt has melted and the potatoes have started to rot. I suspect it was done out of previous enmity." He said he would file a complaint with the Sreenagar Police Station.
Local UP member Abdul Kaiyum Mintu said, "Upon hearing the news, I visited the scene. Edible salt was scattered over a large potato storage. The concerned beat police officer of Kukutia Union has been informed."
Beat Police Officer and Sub-Inspector Mohammad Bin Asad of Sreenagar Police Station confirmed, "After receiving the report, I visited the site. It is a very unfortunate incident. Appropriate action will be taken upon receiving a written complaint."
