Press conference demanding release of panel chairman arrested in false case

S.K Paul Shamir, Pangsha (Rajbari)

A press conference was held to protest the arrest of Ward No -2 BNP President and Union Parishad Panel Chairman Md. Abdur Razzak of Kalikapur Union in Kalukhali Upazila of Rajbari in a false and politically motivated case.

The victim's family members organized the press conference at his home in Raynagar village of the union at 4 pm on Friday.

Abdur Razzak was serving as the acting chairman of the Kalikapur Union Parishad.

Holding a banner reading "Why do we not have security in this country?", Abdur Razzak's wife, Aklima Khatun, head teacher of Gopalpur Government Primary School in Kalukhali Upazila of the district, said in her speech at the press conference, "My husband has been the Ward 2 BNP President of Kalikapur Union since 2009. We have been subjected to a lot of torture during the previous Awami League government. He was taken away from his home late at night on May 4. Later, I learned that he was kept in Rajbari Sadar Police Station. Later, Pangsha Police Station arrested him under the Special Powers Act in a false and fabricated case of distributing Awami League leaflets and sent him to jail. He was never involved in Awami League politics. My husband is a victim of political grouping. Currently, I am feeling extremely helpless with my three daughters and one son. I am demanding a proper investigation of this incident from the government's intelligence department.

He also said, I am a headmaster of a government primary school. I am not getting enough time to get him bail after performing my government job duties. Therefore, I am demanding his unconditional release from this harassing case.

The arrested panel chairman's elder brother Abdul Hakim Fakir, middle brother Abul Kashem Fakir, second brother Abdul Halim, former senior vice-president of Kalikapur Union BNP, three daughters, one son and other family members were present at the press conference.
After the press conference, the family members gave some pictures of Abdur Razzak participating in various BNP programs to the journalists.

The locals said, "Abdur Razzak is a BNP leader, he was never associated with Awami League politics. At present, false cases are being filed as a tool to suppress political opponents. Popular public representative Abdur Razzak is being harassed by being involved in cases in a conspiratorial manner. We strongly protest against this and demand his immediate unconditional release."

It is mentioned that Abdur Razzak was arrested from his own house late on May 4 as a suspected accused of Pangsha Model Police Station Case No. 05, Date-09/02/2025 AD, Section- 15(1)/15(3) of the Special Powers Act of 1974.
