Rival groups clash in Raipura Char : Two dead, 20 injured

Two people have been killed in a clash between the two sides over dominance in the Raipura Char area of Narsingdi. At least 20 people were injured.
The incident took place at Kacharikandi village of Paratali union in Charanchal on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as Sadir Mia, 22, son of Malfat Mia of Kacharikandi village and Hiron Mia, 35, son of Asad Mia. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals including Raipura Upazila Health Complex, Narsingdi Sadar.
The injured have been identified as Al Amin (20), Haq Mia (48), Danu Mia (60), Nazma Begum (24), Samsunnahar (34), Nazir Mia (21) and Maharaj Mia (20). Shukkur Mia (30), Rakib Mia (18), Ramzan (18), Mokhlech (18), Judge Mia (18), Shahid Mia (45), Hannan Mia (19), Salam Mia (33) and Jahangir (29)Jamal Mia (30) Mubarak (28), Ahid Mia (30) and Shah Mia's son Ahid Mia have been sent to Dhaka with bullet wounds in their eyes.
Police and locals said Shah Alam alias Chhota Shah Alam, son of late Fazlu Miah, a former UP member from Kacharikandi village, had been at loggerheads with Shah Alam alias Bara Shah Alam, son of former UP member Abdul Qadir and current UP member for a long time. As a result, Shahid Mia and Yasin Mia, two young Shah Alam supporters, were killed in a clash between the two sides on the day after Eid-ul-Fitr. After the incident, the people of Bara Shah Alam fled the area.
People fleeing the area ahead of the upcoming UP elections started trying to re-enter the area. Due to this, on Thursday morning, the people of Bara Shah Alam attacked the people of Shah Alam with local and foreign weapons and tried to enter the area. At least 20 people from both sides were seriously injured in the attack. Meanwhile, Hiran Mia, a supporter of Chhota Shah Alam, was shot dead on the spot and when Sadir Mia was taken to the Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty declared him dead. Several of the injured, including Mokhlech, were rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Injured Rakib Mia said that this morning the people of Bara Shah Alam suddenly attacked them. At that time, they hit them with Teta, spear, gun and other domestic and foreign weapons.
Narsingdi Additional Superintendent of Police Saheb Ali Pathan said, two people were killed in the clash over an earlier dispute. The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the morgue of Sadar Hospital for autopsy. Additional police have been deployed at the scene to avoid further violence. Currently the situation in the area is calm.
