Seminar on combating adverse effects of climate change : Collaborative works between researchers, scientists emphasised

A day-long seminar titled “ Strengthening Academic Collaboration for Disaster Preparedness and Resilience in Bangladesh ” was jointly organized by the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, Dhaka University and the Department of Disaster Management and Environmental Studies (DMES), BRAC University, at the Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on Tuesday.

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam was present as the chief guest at the seminar.

‎ The seminar was chaired by Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen, Professor of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies. Dr. David Dowland, Registrar of BRAC University, spoke as a special guest. Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, delivered the welcome address. Jawad Ibne Farid, Lecturer of the Institute, conducted the program.

‎ Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam said, due to geographical reasons, Bangladesh is at risk of various natural disasters. In addition, Bangladesh also has to deal with the adverse effects of climate change. Researchers and scientists must work together to meet this challenge. Joint research projects should be undertaken among different universities in the country and mutual exchange of information and experience should be increased.
