
Several villages waterlogged in Raipur

Due to impact of cyclone Remal sveral villages of Raipur Upazila have been inundated by the unusual tidal water of the Meghna.
Common people are stuck in water. Water level has risen around the surrounding low-lying settlements including Chayal Bazar, Mierhat, Charkachia, Charghansia, Hajimara of the upazila. Water has entered the sloping houses and crop fields. The wind is blowing very fast.
A farmer named Sonu Mia had several banana trees broken. In these villages and areas of the Meghna banks, the water has risen on an average from 1.21 to one and a half meters. Chairman of South Charvanshi UP Abu Zafar Mintu has confirmed that more than 500 people have been trapped in water in three villages named Charkachia, Charkhasia, Charjalia.
A farmer named Sonu Mia said, banana trees have increased the beauty around the house. This is due to wind speed. I will not go to the shelter. Who will see cows, goats, poultry. Those who need government food, get it.
North Char Banshi UP Chairman Abul Hossain said that the west bank of Charghansia's Chandar Canal has been flooded. Water has entered low-lying areas. We are working in coordination with the upazila administration. People show reluctance to go to shelters. We could not take most of the people to shelters.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Imran Khan said, I have received the news of waterlogging. Our medical team is on alert. 22 shelter houses are ready.
More than 150 people have taken shelter so far.
