
Smuggler held with consignment of Indian fabric from Madhyanagar on way to Dhaka

Police arrested a smuggler along with a trawler-loaded consignment of fabric brought from Meghalaya, India on Thursday.
Police of Madhyanagar Police Station under Sunamganj District Police of Sylhet Range arrested the smuggler Omar Faruq along with the consignment.
Umar Faruq is the son of Milon Mia of Chandali Para village in Madhyanagar.
On Thursday night, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Sunamganj District Police Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter.
The Additional Superintendent of Police further said that on Thursday morning, Madhyanagar Police seized a trawler-loaded consignment of fabric brought through smuggling from Meghalaya, India evading customs duties. At that time, the police arrested a smuggler named Umar Faruq involved with the smuggling of this fabric.
Madhyanagar Police Station OC Monibur Rahman said, the consignment contained 1,313 thans (pant pieces) and one engine-driven trawler. The estimated value of the seized fabric and trawler is Tk 8,27,150.
Police suspect that the consignment of fabric was brought from across the border in Meghalaya, India through Madhyanagar haor and road routes to be secretly taken to the capital Dhaka.
On Thursday, a case was filed at Madhyanagar Police Station against arrested smuggler Umar Faruq and unnamed smugglers.
