
Smuggling of goods to Myanmar using forged UNO's permit : Govt employee suspended

Following a report published in The Country Today online, a government employee appointed as In-Charge of the Saint Martin’s Tourism Information and Complaint Center by the Cox’s Bazar district administration, Ashek-ur-Rahman, has been temporarily suspended for his involvement in smuggling construction materials to Myanmar using a forged permit from the Teknaf UNO. Teknaf UNO Sheikh Ehsan Uddin confirmed the suspension.He said, necessary information is being collected and those involved are being identified. Legal action, including filing cases, is being taken without delay.A trawler loaded with construction materials was smuggled from Teknaf to Myanmar on April 30, using a forged UNO permit. The syndicate responsible for this smuggling operation diverted the trawler en route from Teknaf to Saint Martin’s Island. The incident was reported by The Country Today on May 1. Following the publication of the report , the UNO office has.taken action against the employee.
