
Social Welfare Adviser visits families of two July martyrs in N'ganj

Social Welfare, and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid on Sunday met with the families of two victims who were killed during the July Uprising in Narayanganj.
The adviser visited the house of sensational martyr Riya Gope in the Noyamati area of Narayanganj at around 10:30 am and offered condolences to her mother.
During the visit, she said, “We have dedicated the entire month of July to the memory of this movement. We are visiting the families of those who were martyred and telling them that we have not forgotten you and we never will.”
Sharmeen also said, “A stadium has been named after little Riya. When children play there, Riya’s name will remain for generations. Whenever they see the name, they will ask why it was given and then they will learn about Riya.”
The adviser announced that a special corner would be set up at the stadium containing information and the names of the martyred children.
Reassuring Riya’s mother Beauty Gope, the adviser said, “Justice will be served for Riya’s killing.”
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Zahidul Islam Mia and other senior officials were present during the visit.
Later, the adviser met the family of another martyr Sumaiya Akhter Simu, in Siddhirganj upazila.
Riya was killed by gunfire while playing on the roof of her house in Noyamati, Narayanganj city on July 19, 2024.
