 Savar Upazila Administration convened a special law-and-order exchange meeting on Wednesday to address ongoing labour unrest across the Savar and Ashulia Export Processing Zone (EPZ) areas and restore normalcy to the industrial hub.

Presided over by Dhaka District Commissioner Farida Khanam, the meeting was attended by Minister of State for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku, MP, as the chief guest, with Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Dhaka Range Md. Mustafizur Rahman present as the special guest.

Local Members of Parliament, Dhaka District Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen, senior administrative officials, political leaders, factory owners, and labor union representatives were also in attendance.

Addressing the session, Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen highlighted the critical imperative of preserving industrial stability, safeguarding workers, and maintaining peaceful working environments in factories. She assured that the Dhaka District Police remains responsive to the legitimate and fair demands of workers, but cautioned that vested interest groups and external agitators must not be allowed to exploit workers' grievances to instigate instability.

The Superintendent of Police warned that acts of vandalism, arson, highway blockades, and destruction of public and private property would not be tolerated under any circumstances. She reaffirmed that law enforcement agencies are acting with utmost professionalism, vigilance, and responsibility to guarantee the security of laborers, factory owners, and the public, emphasizing that multi-stakeholder cooperation is essential to maintaining peace.

Discussions during the meeting focused on the formation of the Wage Board, the implementation of a revised salary framework, and measures to sustain regular production operations across the industrial zone. Participants called for resolving logical labor demands through constructive dialogue while urging all parties to refrain from destructive activities.
