Two teenagers, Sanjay Chandra Roy (14) and Anik Chandra Roy (13), died after being run over by a stone-laden truck in Debiganj, Panchagarh, while returning home from the market.

Sanjay Chandra Roy was an eighth-grade student at Pamuli Dimukhi High School, and Anik Chandra Roy worked at a welding shop in Laxmirhat. They were uncle and nephew.

The tragic accident occurred on Thursday at around 8 PM at the Char Talar Mor area adjacent to Laxmirhat Bazaar in Debiduba Union of the upazila.

Sanjay Chandra Roy was the son of Rajkumar from Bhulli Para area of Pamuli Union, Debiganj upazila, and Anik Chandra Roy was the son of Atul Barman from the same area.

According to local sources, Sanjay Chandra Roy went to Laxmirhat in the evening to shop for household items. After shopping, he was returning home on a bicycle with his uncle Anik Chandra Roy. On the way, a stone-laden truck from Panchagarh hit them from behind at the Char Talar Mor in Laxmirhat. Both sustained serious injuries.

Locals immediately rescued them and took them to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

Meanwhile, locals detained the killer truck along with the driver and his assistant. Later, police arrived at the scene and took the driver, Md. Abdul Halim (60), and his assistant Md. Zahid Hasan (25), into custody. The killer truck, bearing Dhaka Metro-T 161198 license plate, was also seized.

Arrestee Md. Abdul Halim is the son of the late Abdul Hakim of Bordeshi area in Amin Bazar, Dhaka, and Md. Zahid Hasan is the son of Md. Zahurul Islam from Kaliganj area of Mithapukur upazila, Rangpur.

Regarding the matter, Debiganj Police Station OC  Sohel Rana said,  two teenagers died after being hit by a truck. The truck, driver, and assistant have been detained, and legal procedures are underway.
