UGC Chairman calls on universities to responsibly practice open-mindedness, express opinions

Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr. Mamun Ahmed has urged students and teachers to practice open-mindedness in addition to acquiring knowledge and skills in universities. However, he said that this practice is not unfettered, and that expression of opinions and knowledge must be done responsibly.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized by East West University to mark the occasion of Nabin Baran 2026 and Nazrul Barsho on Thursday.
The UGC Chairman said that there should be opportunities to speak freely, to practice knowledge and to express opinions in universities. However, there is a limit to everything.
Addressing the new students, he said, "Success cannot be achieved through talent alone. It requires hard work, perseverance, and commitment. Along with studies, one must also participate in co-curricular activities.
West University Board of Trustees Chairperson Prof Dr. Mohammad Farashuddin , Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Shams Rahman, Dean Prof Dr. Anup Chowdhury, along with university teachers, BOT members and students participated.
