Unity of democratic forces needed to stop bloodthirsty people returning again : Rizvi

Rangpur Bureau

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that the last 16 years have been a difficult time for BNP leaders and activists. No democracy-minded person has been saved from Sheikh Hasina's repression, terrible poisonous claws and harsh grip. We had to go through this terrible time. No young person could sleep at night.

Unity of democratic forces is needed so that those bloodthirsty people cannot return again. It was not right whose bloody corpse would be lying on the banks of Teesta, Padma, Buriganga.

He said these while speaking as the chief guest at the voluntary blood donation and blood grouping program organized by the Doctors Association of Bangladesh-DAB on the occasion of the anniversary of the July-August uprising, mourning and victory at the BNP party office at Grand Hotel Morse in Rangpur city on Thursday.

He said that voters will vote for the party under the proportional representation system. Later, the party will choose their candidate and field him in that seat. In this way, no one will be able to become a leader in the area. No one will build a political career at the local level. The proportional representation system will push the country towards more dictatorship. There will be no more leadership at the local level, no one will be able to build himself at the local level.

Rizvi said that now proportional voting is being talked about. Why is this, what is this for? A person becomes a leader by working alongside the people in the area for a long time. However, in proportional voting, not him, but the party has to be voted for. Then the MP will be announced by selecting from the party. Then it will be pushed towards more dictatorship. There will be no more leadership at the local level, no one will be able to develop themselves at the local level.

He said, Shaheed Abu Sayeed sacrificed himself in front of the pointed gun of the law enforcement agencies. Through his sacrifice, a strong movement developed across the country. We lost many young students and got a new Bangladesh.

The BNP Senior Joint Secretary General said, democracy means that there will be an opportunity to freely express opinions and criticize each other. But for the greater interest of the country, we can all be united. Despite the unimaginable repression against BNP leaders and activists in the last 16 years, division could not be created within the party. BNP has maintained unity despite disappearances, murders and torture. BNP has always been uncompromising in the movement for democracy.

Rizvi said, as a force for democracy, we have to be vigilant. No common person should be harmed by us. The names of BNP leaders and activists should not be heard with extortion and occupation. We must take special care that people are not hurt by any of our behavior.

Among others present at the time were Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Member Secretary Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don, DAB Metropolitan Convener Dr. Nikhilendra Shankar Guha, Rangpur Medical College Convener Dr. Mahmudal Haque Sarkar, Rangpur District DAB Convener Dr. Khalequzzaman, Co-Organizing Secretary Dr. ABM Maruf Hasan, Lalmonirhat DAB President Dr. Abdur Razzak Rubel, and Ziaur Rahman Foundation Life Member Dr. Mohammad Hasan Ali.
