Walton sets new milestone with 32- MW solar ecosystem to boost green energy, trim power bills
Tech giant Walton launched an integrated "Solar Eco-System" technology framework on Saturday, marking a landmark achievement in expanding renewable energy adoption, cutting power costs, reducing carbon emissions, and fostering green manufacturing across the industrial sector.
The comprehensive ecosystem enables 100% eco-friendly solar power generation, energy storage, national grid transmission, and the direct operation of everyday home electric and electronic appliances using solar power.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury officially unveiled the "Walton Solar Eco-System" as the chief guest during a ceremony at the Walton Corporate Office in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Through rooftop and floating solar projects at its factory premises, Walton is currently generating 32 -MW of solar power—equivalent to the total electricity demand of a major district town. Besides powering its own industrial production, Walton supplies an average of 1,150 megawatt-hours (MWh) of solar electricity to the national grid annually through net metering.
In addition to generation, Walton’s solar ecosystem features solar-powered appliances, including hybrid air conditioners, refrigerators, and smart TVs, as well as energy-efficient washing machines, electric cookers, microwave ovens, BLDC fans, solar cables, and storage inverter batteries. The ecosystem also integrates smart battery solutions into Walton’s Takyon e-bikes, converting them into mobile energy storage systems capable of providing emergency backup power.
Inspecting the product lineup, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury commended Walton’s initiative to blend solar and grid electricity, noting that large-scale solar adoption over the next few years will meet growing public energy demands at lower costs, reduce fossil fuel imports, and save precious foreign currency reserves.
Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC Chairman S. M. Shamsul Alam, Vice-Chairman S. M. Ashraful Alam, Managing Director S. M. Mahbubul Alam, and Directors S. M. Rezaul Alam, S. M. Monjurul Alam Ovee, and Tahmina Afrose Tanna were present at the launch alongside other senior executives.
