The water level of the Jamuna River is rising rapidly at Sirajganj and Kazipur points. The water level in Kazipur has risen by 48 centimeters and in Sirajganj by 44 centimeters in the last 24 hours till 6 am on Thursday (June 26), according to the Bangladesh Water Development Board ( BWDB) .
According to Pawbo sources, the river water level at the Kazipur water measuring station was recorded at 12.68 meters (SOB), which is flowing 2.12 meters below the danger level of 14.80 meters. The water level at Sirajganj point is 10.91 meters, 1.99 meters below the danger level.
Nazmul Hossain, Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Sirajganj region of the Water Development Board, said, “The water level in the Jamuna is rising due to water coming down from the northern region. We are closely monitoring the situation. However, the river water has not crossed the danger level anywhere yet. There is no threat of flood.”
He also said that if the rising water trend continues for a few days, waterlogging may occur in the low-lying areas. The Paubo and the local administration are ready to deal with that situation.
Meanwhile, farmers and residents along the riverbanks are somewhat worried about the rising water level. However, no homes or agricultural land have been flooded yet.
The BWDB officials said that after monitoring the situation for the next two to three days, special warnings will be issued if necessary.
