An elderly woman named Shukjan Khatun (75) was seriously injured after being attacked by stray dogs in the Bonpara Municipal area of Baraigram Upazila in Natore.
She was the wife of the late Khed Ali of Mridhapara neighborhood, near the Upazila Gate of the municipality. The incident occurred on Tuesday at her residence.
According to locals, Shukjan Khatun was engaged in household chores in her yard when two to three aggressive dogs suddenly attacked her, biting her hands and legs, tearing flesh, and fracturing one of her arms. Hearing her screams, neighbors rushed to the scene, rescued her in a critical condition, and promptly took her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The Baraigram Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer stated that the anti-rabies vaccine is currently unavailable at the Upazila Health Complex, but a request for supply has already been sent to the concerned authorities.
Baraigram Upazila and Municipal Administrator Laila Jannatul Ferdous said that the issue of stray dog control and elimination has already been discussed in the monthly meeting, and necessary actions in this regard will begin soon.
