Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman of Bayezid Bostami Police Station in Chattogram city has allegedly filed cases against  a garments businessman. 

 At a press conference held at the Chattogram Press Club on Wednesday, the businessman's wife, Nargis Akhter, alleged that her husband Mohammad Raju was implicated in one theft case, one assault case, and three murder cases after refusing to pay a bribe of Tk 1 million.

According to Nargis Akhter, a group of individuals—Borhan, Salamat Ullah, Tipu, Monju, and Rubel—had been demanding Tk 1 million in extortion from her husband. When he refused, on December 14, he was allegedly abducted in front of his business establishment and later released blindfolded on the condition of paying the demanded money. The next night, on December 15, he filed a case at Bayezid Bostami Police Station mentioning the names of the accused.

She claimed that despite her husband naming only Borhan and Rubel, the OC added six other fabricated names and accepted the case with a manipulated FIR. Following this, on December 24, Raju held a press conference to expose alleged corruption in police case-filing practices. Since then, OC Arifur Rahman has been retaliating by implicating him in multiple false cases.

Nargis Akhter further stated that the OC himself demanded Tk 1 million under the guise of a settlement and threatened harassment through false cases if the money was not paid. When the demand was refused, the OC allegedly used a man named Alamgir to file a false theft case at Bayezid Police Station. Raju was arrested in that case on April 23, where he was reportedly beaten severely in custody. Later, the complainant himself submitted a compromise petition in court, and Raju was released from the charges.

She also alleged that to prevent Raju from getting released from jail, the OC attempted to show him arrested in a political murder case at Chandgaon Police Station. However, the court found no grounds and released him from that case. Afterwards, attempts were made to implicate him in three political murder cases at Panchlaish Police Station, where he was shown arrested.
