The Bangladesh Coast Guard detained six individuals in separate anti-crime operations across Patuakhali and Bhola on Thursday, seizing illegal fishing trawlers, dredgers, and a bulk carrier used in unauthorized sand excavation.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon said this in a press release on Thursday evening.
According to the Coast Guard, a joint drive was conducted by personnel from the Coast Guard Outpost Nizampur and the Department of Fisheries near the Alipur Fish Landing Station under Mohipur Police Station in Patuakhali at 10:00 pm on Wednesday. During the operation, authorities intercepted two unauthorized artisanal trolling boats. A search of the vessels led to the seizure of 19 Behundhi (set bag) nets, four wings, four trawl doors, and related gear, along with the detention of three fishermen on board.
In a separate operation on Thursday morning at 8:00 am, a specialized team from Coast Guard Base Bhola carried out a raid in the Hansherchar area under Borhanuddin Upazila, Bhola. Acting on a confidential tip-off, Coast Guard personnel caught three sand-dredging units operating illegally in the area, seizing three active dredgers and one bulkhead vessel, while detaining three individuals involved in the unauthorized extraction.
Legal proceedings have been taken to hand over the seized vessels, fishing equipment, and machinery, alongside the six detainees, to relevant authorities for formal prosecution.
