The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized a huge amount of cement during smuggling to Myanmar on Wednesday.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan gave this information through a press release on Wednesday night.
The press release said that based on a secret information, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Outpost Sarikait at 10 am on Wednesday in the Sarikait Gachtali Ghat area under Sandwip Police Station of Chittagong.
During the operation, a suspicious fishing boat was searched in the area and 660 bags of cement worth about 3 lakh 63 thousand taka, which was being illegally transported to Myanmar for the purpose of evading customs duties, were seized along with the fishing boat used for smuggling. At this time, the smugglers fled upon sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, and no one could be arrested.
The process of taking further legal action against the seized cement and the fishing boat used for smuggling is under process.
The Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future to prevent smuggling and smuggling.
