
Illegal fertilizer storage in Baliadangi: 715 sacks seized, godown sealed, fined 30,000

A mobile court has seized 715 sacks of fertilizer from a fertilizer godown in Baliadangi, Thakurgaon. The godown was sealed and a fine of Tk 30,000 was imposed.
Baliadangi UNO Mofizur Rahman conducted the raid at a godown of M/s Mohir Uddin Traders in Lahiri Bazar of Charole Union of the upazila at around 1:30 am on Wednesday.
It is learnt that based on a tip-off, UNO Mofizur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Sajjad Hossain Sohel and members of Baliadangi Police Station jointly conducted the operation. During the operation, 415 sacks of urea fertilizer and 300 sacks of potash fertilizer were seized from the godown of Md. Shahjahan Ali, proprietor of M/s Mohir Uddin Traders.
Later, the godown was sealed under Section 12(1) of the Fertilizer Management Act, 2006 and the owner was fined Tk 30,000.
Baliadangi Upazila Executive Officer Mofizur Rahman said, "Illegally stored fertilizers were seized during a raid at night. These fertilizers will be sold to genuine farmers at a fair price through the Agriculture Officer and the money will be deposited in the government treasury. Such raids will continue in the public interest."
