Illegal structures built on govt land adjacent to Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex wall

Local influential individuals have allegedly occupied government land adjacent to the perimeter wall of the Abhaynagar Upazila Health Complex in Noapara, building unauthorized commercial structures that impede traffic and compromise safety for patients and visitors.
A spot visit revealed that multiple illegal stalls, including tea shops, have been set up in the space between the main road and the health complex wall. While some individuals operate their own businesses in these structures, others collect monthly rent from tenants occupying the encroached spaces.
Local residents and patient relatives complained that the encroachments have narrowed the primary access road and entrance to the health facility, leading to frequent traffic congestion for emergency vehicles and ambulances. Female visitors and patient attendants also raised safety concerns regarding groups of youths gathering at the roadside stalls and subjecting passersby to harassment.
Addressing the issue, Abhaynagar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Alimun Rajib said, because the illegal structures sit outside the health complex's official boundary line, hospital authorities cannot directly execute an eviction drive. However, he confirmed that the matter has been formally communicated to the upazila administration for swift intervention and removal of the encroachments.
