Separate seminars and discussion meetings were held on Thursday at the initiative of the Faculty of Business Studies and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Dhaka University to mark the second anniversary of the historic July Uprising.

A discussion titled 'July Mass Uprising: The Journey of Democracy' was held at the MBA building of the Faculty of Business Studies at 11 am.

The event was chaired by the Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, Prof Dr. Mahmud Osman Imam, and the Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, was present as the chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani were present as special guests. The keynote address was presented by the University Treasurer, Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. The event was conducted by the convener of the celebration committee, ProfAl Amin.

The program began with recitation of the Holy Quran, prayers for the souls of the martyrs of the July Uprising, and a minute of silence. Later, a documentary film about the participation of teachers and students of the Faculty of Business Education in the July Uprising was screened.

Master Humayun Kabir, father of Ahsan Kabir, the only student of the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University who was martyred in the July Uprising, spoke at the event. In addition, students of the faculty who were injured in the movement shared their memories.

In his speech as the chief guest, Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam paid deep tribute to all the martyrs of the July Uprising, prayed for the forgiveness of their souls, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

He said that the 2024 popular uprising has brought an end to the long-standing misrule, fascist rule, and regimes opposed to democratic values. History bears witness that no regime can last long by ignoring people's opinions, suppressing dissent, and through misrule.

He further said that the bravery and sacrifice of the students in the 2024 mass movement has shown new hope to the nation. It was the moral responsibility of teachers to stand by the students in times of crisis. In building a new Bangladesh, a society free from discrimination, democratic and free of expression must be established.

On the same day, in the afternoon, a discussion titled 'Bloody July and Dhaka University' was held at the auditorium of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka under the initiative of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof Dr. Upma Kabir, presided over the event, and Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof Dr. A. B. M. Obaidul Islam, was present as the chief guest. Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam and Treasurer of the University, Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury were present as special guests. Prof Dr. S. M. Mostafa Al Mamun, Professor of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, delivered the keynote address.

The meeting began with readings from the holy scriptures, singing of the national anthem, and observing a minute of silence in memory of the July martyrs. Later, teachers and students reminisced about the July Uprising and emphasized the importance of capturing the spirit of July in building a democratic, non-discriminatory, and humane Bangladesh.

Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall:

On this occasion, a seminar titled 'Blood-Blooded July, Inevitable in Consciousness' was held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the initiative of Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall. Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam was the chief guest and National University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Md. Lutfar Rahman and Open University Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam spoke as special guests. The VP, GS and students of the Hall were present at the event. The prizes of the debate competition were distributed, a wall was inaugurated and free medical check-up was conducted.

Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall:

On this occasion, a discussion meeting and award distribution ceremony titled 'July Mass Uprising: Expectations and Achievements' was held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the initiative of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall.

The function was presided over by the Provost of the hall, Prof.Dr. Md. Nurul Amin, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam as the chief guest and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar as the special guest. Essay competition, stills and a souvenir titled Uprising were released at the function.

Prayer Mahfil: Milad and prayer mahfil were held at the central mosque, Masjidul Jamia, on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, after Asr, to seek forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Mohammad Almojaddidi Alfesani, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the National University Prof Md. Lutfar Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts Prof Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof Dr. Mohammad Ikramul Haque, along with provosts of various halls, students, officials and employees participated in the prayer mahfil.

Special prayer meeting:

On this occasion, a special prayer meeting was held in the Jagannath Hall chapel on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. Jagannath Hall Principal Mr. Debashish Pal, resident teachers, students and officers and employees were present.
