Four shops were completely gutted in a devastating fire at a market in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur, leaving the affected families destitute with losses estimated at around Tk 20 lakh.

Upon learning of the incident, Farhad Ohab Akon, an expatriate living in Kazakhstan, stepped forward to provide financial assistance and dry food supplies to the victims.

On Thursday afternoon, local dignitaries distributed the aid on behalf of the expatriate at Siramdi Bazar in Charvishnupur union, Sadarpur upazila. Each affected family received cash alongside essential food items, including a sack of rice, lentils, potatoes, and cooking oil.

According to local residents, the fire broke out due to an electrical short circuit around 4:00 AM on August 2. Although the Sadarpur Fire Service rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control, two grocery shops, a pharmacy, and a gas cylinder shop were completely reduced to ashes, resulting in an estimated loss of Tk 20 lakh.

Farhad Ohab Akon is the son of retired bank official Abdul Ohab Akon from the Akoner Dangi area of the union. Having lived in Kazakhstan for 22 years, he serves as the president of the Bangladesh-Kazakhstan Community and is well-known locally for his philanthropic and humanitarian work.
