Police arrested Shams Al Amin Tamim (29), son of Shamsul Alam of Kanaikhali, Natore, with a pistol from the meeting venue of Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita during a road rally in front of Uttara Ganabhaban in Natore on Friday afternoon.

He is said to be a student of Bogra TMSS Medical College.
Police and eyewitnesses said that at around 4:35 pm on Friday, a road show by Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita was going on in front of Uttara Ganabhaban. Jatiya Sangsad Whip Advocate M Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu, District Council Administrator Rahim Newaz and almost all the leaders of the district BNP and its affiliates were present there. At that time, a young man wearing a brown dress was detained with a pistol. Later, it was learned that the detained young man is the son of Shamsul Alam, a fertilizer dealer from Kanaikhali area of Tamim Natore.

Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mansur Alam confirmed the incident and said that on Friday afternoon, Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam Rita Uttara was giving a speech at a road meeting stage adjacent to the gate of Ganobhaban after visiting it. At that time, the young man was standing near the minister. When the minister came down from the stage, he bumped into the young man twice. When the police became suspicious, they took him aside and questioned him. At one stage, a pistol was found with him.

Later, he was arrested along with the pistol and taken into the custody of Natore Sadar Police Station. At that time, the detained young man Tamim claimed that the pistol was licensed in his father's name. He had brought it with him for self-defense. He also claimed to be a student.
