A Media Dialogue on Internal Migrants’ Social Security Rights was held at 11 am on Saturday
at the conference hall of Hotel Warishan in Rajshahi.

The event was organized by Association
for Community Development (ACD) under the project titled “Fostering Resilience and Community Engagement for Internal Migrant Workers and Families.”

A total of 26 journalists from print and electronic media participated in the session.
Mr. Abdul Matin, the Project Coordinator, presented the aim and objectives of the event, which was moderated by Mr. Subrata Kumar Paul.

During the dialogue, participants discussed the various challenges faced by internal migrants,
including exclusion from social protection programs, difficulties in accessing government
services due to the lack of national identity cards, disconnection from housing, education, and
healthcare due to relocation, limited access to legal assistance, and the broader need for social
and economic inclusion.
Organizers emphasized that the objective of the dialogue was to engage the media in regularly
reporting on migrant issues and drawing the attention of policymakers. They called for a
coordinated approach to resolving the crises faced by internal migrants and ensuring their rights are protected.

Speakers highlighted the importance of amplifying the legal rights and social protection needs of internal migrants through the media, urging that such issues receive greater attention from
decision-makers. They noted that spotlighting the complex realities of internal migration could not only accelerate government development initiatives but also play a key role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Prominent journalists who spoke at the event included Dr. Ainul Haque (Special Correspondent, (BSS), Abul Kala, Mohammad Azad Bureau Chief of Prothom Alo, Kazi Shahed (Staff Reporter, Bangladesh Pratidin), Sharif Sumon (Senior Reporter, Bangla News), Md. Anisuzzaman (Staff Reporter, Daily Ittefaq), Mamun-ur-Rashid (Staff Reporter, Daily Janakantha), Tanzim (Staff Reporter, Daily Jugantor), Ahsan Habib Apu (Staff Reporter, The Asian Age Correspondent Obaydul Islam Robi, Desh Rupantor), Shohel Mahbub (Acting Editor, Natun Probhat), and Moudud Rana (Staff Reporter, Somoy Television), among others.

Participants urged local government and administrative authorities to ensure the inclusion of internal migrants in government-funded services and welfare schemes. The media was also encouraged to publish in-depth and consistent reports and features on the challenges faced by migrant communities.
