State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad has said that no more educational institutions, mosques, temples, markets, agricultural lands, or residential houses will be allowed to be swallowed by river erosion. Alongside temporary measures such as placing geo-bags, the government will implement various projects to provide a permanent solution to riverbank erosion in phases.

He made these remarks while addressing a public rally as the chief guest at the Eidgah ground of Lalchamar Bazar in Kapasia Union of Sundarganj Upazila at around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The State Minister said that the BNP government is committed to implementing its election manifesto. He noted that Family Cards, Farmer Cards, and salary and allowance programs for Imams, Muazzins, and other related groups have already been introduced.

He further stated that, following the Prime Minister’s instructions, he had visited several river erosion-affected areas in Sundarganj and Fulchhari upazilas.

Earlier, the State Minister traveled by speedboat from Fulchhari Upazila to Lalchamar Ferry Ghat in Sundarganj via river route. Upon arrival, he was welcomed by local administration officials and party leaders and activists.
Among those present at the rally were Gaibandha Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Masudur Rahman Molla, Additional Superintendent of Police Bidroha Kumar Kundu, Sundarganj UNO Iffat Jahan Tuli, OC of Sundarganj Police Station Shaheen Mohammad Amanullah, Sundarganj Upazila BNP Convener Babul Ahmed, Member Secretary Mahmudul Islam Pramanik, along with other government officials and party leaders.
