Faridpur Correspondent
The West Zone Power Distribution Workers and Employees Union has organized a reception ceremony in honour of the central committee leaders on the occasion of the union being affiliated with the CBA on Wednesday afternoon at the WZPDCO Electricity Building in Goachamat, Faridpur town.
The program was presided over by the President of the Faridpur District Branch, Khandaker Abdul Awal, and conducted by the General Secretary, Md. Sheikh Nazim. The Chief Guest of the event was Central Committee President Syed Anwar Hossain, while the Keynote Speaker was Central Committee General Secretary Mujibur Rahman.
Among others, Senior Vice President Md. Shahab Uddin, Vice Presidents Humayun Kabir, Kazi Ali Ahsan Sani, Joint Secretary Mustafizur Rahman Tuhin, Treasurer Mohammad Ali Hossain, Office Secretary Md. Mahmudul Haque Mahmud, Organizing Secretary Faruk Ahmed Siddiqui, Anwar Zahid, and leaders from Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, and Gopalganj branches of the West Zone Power Distribution Workers and Employees Union were present.
Speakers at the event said that during the 17 years of the fascist Hasina regime and her accomplices, rampant corruption took place in Bangladesh's power sector. In the name of development, thousands of crores of taka were looted from this sector and smuggled abroad. They further stated that those who have been involved with the West Zone Power Workers and Employees Union have been subjected to various forms of oppression, and they could not even raise their rightful demands.
They expressed gratitude and respect to those student activists who, through the anti-discrimination movement, ousted the killer Hasina from the country and freed it from fascism. “It is because of their sacrifices that we can now speak freely,” they added.
The speakers also mentioned that their struggle is not over yet. “In the coming February election, if the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) does not come to power, our voices may once again be silenced. Therefore, let us unite for the welfare and rights of workers. There is no alternative to BNP’s ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol for the progress of the country and the workers. Only when BNP comes to power will the true development of the country and the workers be possible.”
