
Sandwip Upazila AL President arrested with cocktails from Hatiya

Police have arrested Alaudin Bedan, President of Sandwip Upazila Awami League, from Hatiya, a remote island upazila in Noakhali. He was arrested early Thursday at around 6 AM from Jorkhali village in Ward 7 of the Burirchar Union.
The arrestee, Alaudin Bedan, is the son of the late Abul Kashem of Harishpur village in Ward 3 of Sandeep Municipality, Chattogram. He has long served as the president of the Awami League in Sandeep Upazila.
According to police and local sources, after the fall of the Awami government on August 5, Alaudin Bedan had been in hiding at his in-laws’ residence. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid early Thursday at Jorkhali village in Burirchar Union. During the raid, Bedan was arrested from the house of Kalam Haji with 10 handmade cocktails. Locals reported that sensing the presence of law enforcement, 15–20 of his accomplices from Sandeep fled the scene. Bedan is the son-in-law of Nurul Islam of Jorkhali village.
Confirming the incident, OC of Hatiya Police Station AKM Azmal Huda said, AL leader Bedan was arrested with 10 cocktails. A case has been filed under the Explosives Act, and he will be produced before the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Friday.
