Sarfur vows to transform Srimangal in 3 years: Pledges to build modern, clean tourism-friendly municipality if elected mayor

Sarfaraz Ahmed Sarfur, Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Coordinator of the Arafat Rahman Coco Memorial Trust, has expressed his determination to build Srimangal Municipality in Moulvibazar as a modern, clean and tourism-friendly city. Expressing his interest in running for mayor in the upcoming municipal election, he said that if elected, he wants to show the development of the past 30 years in three years instead of five years.
Sarfaraz Ahmed Sarfur shared his plans and development ideas with journalists at the Srimangal Press Club on Saturday at 8 pm.
At the meeting, he said, "Srimangal is not just a municipality, it is one of the most important tourist centers in the country. However, the civic amenities and infrastructure of the city are still far behind its potential. We want to change this picture."
Sarfaraz Ahmed said that although small in size, Srimangal is one of the most attractive tourist centers in the country. Therefore, the tourism sector will be given utmost importance in the development plan of the municipality. He said that coordinated initiatives will be taken to increase the facilities for tourists, beautify the city and ensure modern citizen services.
The issues that he wants to prioritize
Sarfaraz Ahmed said that the expansion of the municipality, relocation of the garbage dump and construction of a quality modern park and walkway there by freeing the children's park.
Sarfaraz Ahmed also emphasized on preserving the traditional structures of Srimangal and making them suitable for tourism. According to him, if tourism infrastructure is developed along with planned urban management, the economic potential of Srimangal will also increase.
‘If I fail, I will not wait to complete my term’
Expressing his intention to run for mayor in the upcoming Srimangal Municipality elections, Sarfaraz Ahmed Sarfu said, “If you elect me as mayor, I will show the development of the past 30 years in just three years, not five years, InshaAllah. If I fail, I will resign and leave without waiting to complete my five-year term.”
Various issues including Srimangal Municipality’s civic problems, traffic congestion, waste management, roads and sidewalks, tourism infrastructure and beautification of the city were discussed at the meeting.
