US Ambassador visits Bhimruli floating guava market

Staff Correspondent

US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen today expressed delight after visiting the traditional floating guava market and guava orchards at Bhimruli in Jhalakathi.

Accompanied by his wife, Deanne Dao, the ambassador took a boat ride this morning to explore Bhimruli's traditional floating guava market and nearby orchards.

During the visit, Christensen exchanged greetings with local guava growers and orchard owners and learned about different aspects of guava cultivation, production and marketing.

“It's great to be here at the floating markets, to experience this unique site in Bangladesh.

It was a really fun experience out on the river.

I enjoy getting to try the guavas, getting to talk to the sellers, getting to see how the guava is picked, and of course getting to sample some of the guava as well,” he told reporters after the visit

Bhimruli's floating guava market is one of the major agro-tourism attractions in southern Bangladesh, drawing large numbers of domestic and foreign tourists during the monsoon season.

Local orchard owners said the US ambassador's visit generated considerable enthusiasm among guava growers in the area.
