 3 arrested in Narail sabotage case

In a joint operation by Narail Sadar and Lohagara police stations, three individuals, including Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Ashish Kumar Biswas, have been arrested in connection with sabotage cases. The arrests were made in response to separate cases filed over incidents involving gunfire, bomb explosions, and attacks on anti-discrimination student and public protests in Narail.

The arrests were carried out on Friday (May 23) night during operations across various locations in the district. On Saturday (May 24) afternoon, the accused were sent to jail through the court.

The arrested individuals are:  Ashish Kumar Biswas, Chairman of Kalora Union Parishad, Narail Sadar , Syed Riaz Ali, a member of Narail Sadar Thana Awami League, from Mirzapur village,  Sharifull Islam, General Secretary of the Ward Volunteer League, from Dumurtala village, Hobkhali Union  

Narail Sadar Thana OC Md. Sajedul Islam said  three accused have been arrested in separate cases filed at Lohagara and Narail Sadar police stations regarding attacks on anti-discrimination student and public protests. They have been handed over to the court.”

It is learnt  that on August 4 of the previous year, a protest march by the anti-discrimination student movement was held in the Malibag area of Narail Sadar, demanding the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. On September 10, a case was filed at Narail Sadar Thana by Sheikh Mostafa Al-Muzahidur Rahman Palash, former Member Secretary and current General Secretary of Narail Sadar Upazila BNP, alleging gunfire, bomb explosions, and physical assaults during the march. The case named 90 individuals and included 400 to 500 unidentified persons as accused. Awami League leader Syed Riaz Ali and Volunteer League leader Sharifull Islam were arrested in connection with this case.

Additionally, on the morning of August 4 last year, leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement and BNP-affiliated organizations were holding a peaceful sit-in near the gate of Lohagara Upazila Parishad. On November 13, Jahidul Alam (Jhunu), a leader of the Lohagara Labor Organization, filed a case alleging armed attacks and bomb explosions during the peaceful sit-in. The case named 135 individuals and included 50 to 60 unidentified persons as accused. Kalora Union Parishad Chairman Ashish Kumar Biswas was arrested in connection with this case.
