Chittagong-4 constituency (Sitakunda).MP Aslam Chowdhury's followers have blocked roads in various parts of Sitakunda after the Supreme Court rejected his candidacy for 'loan default' despite winning the 13th National Parliament election.

Tuesday ( after 1 pm till evening, 35 km from City Gate to Bara Darogar Hat: 30 to 35 spots in the area
The Dhaka-Chittagong highway has been closed due to tree trunks being thrown and various roadblocks being created.

Kumira Highway Police Station OC Md. Nurul Absar said, “Traffic is suspended in the Sitakunda section due to blockades at various places on the highway.
"Roads have been blocked at various places on the road from the city gate to Bora Darogar Hat, due to which vehicles have not been able to move since noon."

OC Absar said, "We are trying to persuade the besiegers to move from different places. Again, they leave one place and take up positions in another."
Along with vehicles, shops in various markets have also been closed.

Meanwhile, witnesses said that a large tree was cut down from the side of the road in the Barabkunda area and thrown onto the road.

Before the 13th National Parliament election, the Returning Officer declared Aslam Chowdhury's nomination papers valid after screening them on January 3 this year.

But Jamaat candidate Anwar Siddiqui and Jamuna Bank appealed to the Election Commission (EC) alleging loan default against him.

After the hearing, the Election Commission dismissed the appeal on January 18, leaving Aslam Chowdhury's candidacy intact.

The two complainants then filed separate writ petitions in the High Court challenging the Election Commission's decision. On January 27, the High Court dismissed both writ petitions after hearing. As a result, Aslam Chowdhury's candidacy remained intact.

Jamaat candidate Anwar Siddiqui filed a leave to appeal against the High Court order in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court. On February 3, a five-member appeal bench headed by the Chief Justice granted his appeal.
The order said that even if the appeal is accepted for hearing, Aslam Chowdhury will be able to participate in the February 12 election. However, the results of that constituency cannot be announced until the appeal is finally resolved.

BNP's Aslam Chowdhury defeated Jamaat candidate Anwar Siddique by a margin of 53,000 votes in the February 12 election, casting his vote with uncertainty. But as per the Supreme Court's directive, the Election Commission postponed the publication of the gazette results for that constituency. As a result, Aslam Chowdhury's swearing-in was also delayed.

Following this, the hearing on the matter began in the Appellate Division. On June 15, the Supreme Court heard the opinions of lawyers M. Kamrul Haque Siddiqui and Prabir Niyogi as amicus curiae or friends of the court.

The Appellate Division's ruling on Tuesday after the final hearing ended Aslam Chowdhury's path to parliament.
