Mymensingh Correspondent

Seven passengers of a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw, including four members of a single family, were killed when a passenger bus rammed into the vehicle on the Akua Bypass Road in Mymensingh city on Friday noon.

The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the Gandropa area under Kotwali Model Police Station.

The deceased were identified as three men, three women, and a five-year-old child. Authorities have confirmed the identities of five victims so far.

Four of the identified victims belonged to the same family from Darihamidpur village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila: Rashida Begum, 70; her son Mofazzal Hossain, 50; her daughter Morjina Akhtar, 25; and Morjina’s son Minan, 5. Mofazzal worked as a mason in Gazipur, and the family was traveling from Jamalpur to Gazipur.

The fifth identified victim was the auto-rickshaw driver, Sujon Ali, son of Asar Uddin of the Birgobindabari area in Jamalpur Sadar. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining two victims using mobile phones and other leads.

According to police and locals, a Dhaka-bound Rajib Paribahan passenger bus heading toward Jamalpur collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw, completely crushing the smaller vehicle and killing all seven occupants on the spot.

Mohammad Shibirul Islam, Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC),  said the bodies have been sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsies. Police have seized the bus, though the driver and assistant fled the scene. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
